There is an injection, which is a method of contraception. It is made up of a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone, known as medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). It is a long-acting and effective way of preventing pregnancy.
This injection works by suppressing the pituitary gland in the brain from producing hormones that can induce the ovaries to produce an egg. It also changes the cervical mucus and lining, preventing the sperm from reaching the egg.

This injection is given via an injection every few months.
